NASA The Space Watch - Black
In 1974, Richard Danne along with his founding partner Bruce Blackburn of New York design studio Danne & Blackburn, responded to a brief to rebrand NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). The resulting logo—red, curvy bold type spelling out N-A-S-A with no cross strokes in the A’s—has since retired but remains iconic, educating and inspiring young designers even today. Nicknamed “The Worm,” this futuristic logo as well as the NASA graphic standards manual are both part of MoMA’s collection. In collaboration with creative studio and watchmaker Anicorn, The Space Watch was designed by Danne who explained that “this watch is inspired by Space itself—its beauty, its silence, its rotating planets.”
